Celebrations: Windows Into Culture This was the fifth annual COllaboratory
project done in partnership with the Bishop
Museum. This year's exhibit was created by freshmen in the Rainbow
Advantage Program at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, third graders
from Le Jardin Academy
in Kailua, eighth graders at Iolani
School in Honolulu, college students in the Russell
Scholars Program at the University of Southern Maine and fifth and
sixth graders from Gorham Village School in Maine. Altogether there
were 58 fabric sculptures, each representing a different celebration
from a variety of cultures around the world. Each hanging depicted the
history, a cultural component, and an interesting fact or explanation
of the particular celebration. A great deal of research, discovery,
and effort went behind each of the individual pieces. |
